Discovery Place is a "school day" ECEAP program that runs 8:30 – 3:30, Mon-Thurs, 4 days/wk. Early Childhood and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is Washington's pre-K program for 3-5 year olds. We use Creative Curriculum, an emergent, play-based curriculum, using children’s interests as a springboard for learning and discovery. ECEAP also focuses on social-emotional, physical, and pre-academic skills preparing children for Kindergarten. ECEAP also has many services to help families such as help find affordable housing, with parenting skills, setting and accomplish goals, and any other needs families have. With just 6 children per teacher, there is more individualized attention. The teacher, DeAnn Jones, has an MS and Ph.D. The program is state-licensed and accepts state subsidy. Tuition for private pay is $840/mo, although there will be no slots for private pay in the 2024-25 school year. Families qualify based on factors such as low income, unexpected job loss, facing homelessness, etc. However, families don't necessarily need to be low income. Having a child with an IEP, being a military family, if the child is being raised by a grandparent, etc. are also factors that go toward qualifying. If a child is going to the Developmental Preschool, they can attend ECEAP in the morning and the Developmental Preschool in the afternoon. A bus from Stanwood Elementary picks them up from Discovery Place at 12:40 and transports them to the Developmental Preschool if they are enrolled there.
